Creative outlet

Greetings and Salutations!

I have decided to try something new, something sort of unexpected and not my usual thang. I'm following two inspirational quotes. "When was the last time you did something for the first time?" And, "If it is to be, it is up to me!" I have had a lifelong love affair with, and an appreciation of music. I felt the need for a creative outlet. My work doesn't allow me to be too creative, so it's time to be startin' something!

Summertime

This song WAS the summer of 1997! You heard it everywhere, especially in the LBC!! Yes, they were from Long Beach. Another local band makes good!

Magic Carpet Ride!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EEEzbFxEbB8

Heard this song today and it really took me back! Love the VERY 60's sound with the organ, the raw and chunky guitar work and just about everything about this song. Leslie's posting Steppenwolf? Yep,this is all about music I dig.

Babe I'm Gonna Leave You

Led Zeppelin, is one of the best bands EVER. Hard rockin' blues never sounded better before or after this band. This song has a beautiful, lyrical begining and ending and a kick ass middle section. Love Jimmy Page's beautiful acoustic guitar work, and Robert Plant's soulful wail of longing. Fantastic!

B is for Bob

Bob Marley, Maximum Respect! What an artist, visionary, prophet. His uplifting and meaningful lyrics are unparalleled. Today as I was driving my nephew home from lunch, this song came on and he reached over to TURN IT UP! We were just driving down the 405 singing along with Bob. I love that he loves Bob too. But I had a hand in that... When he was younger (before he down loaded all his music) I used to buy him CDs of artists I thought he should know. I bought him some Bob Marley, The Clash, The Ramones, The Doors and Nirvana. Lovely time!

Six Feet Under

If you were a fan of the "now cancelled" show Six Feet Under, and saw the last episode, then you know this song. ANOTHER show that I liked that is no longer on!! I never knew who the artist was who performed the song and (shame on me!) did nothing to find out who it was. I JUST HAPPENED to be watching Last Call with Carson Daly tonight or this morning, and he had the artist on. She is an Australian woman named Sia. Very interesting video. Reminds me of some of the photo collage work by David Hockney, in that he took LOTS of pictures to make a single picture. Fantastic artist! Love this song! Pearblossom Highway (shown above) is one of the most famous photo collages done by Hockney, I have a post card of it...

Ziggy!

What can I say about David Bowie? I have loved his music since 1974. He is/was always ahead of his time and JFA! I have always felt like I was a little bit different from those around me, growing up. I've yet to discover why, (other than my brilliance :-O) but Bowie made me feel like it was ok. "Others" thought he was scary, he was too...something. Was he over the top? Was it because he was androgynous? "They" could never say... The alter ego of Ziggy Stardust was fantastic! I remember singing part of this song to a boy I liked at the time. MB knows who he is, but I sang "making love to his ego, Ziggy sucked up into his mind" This boy was FINE, but he knew it too...

WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS !! LAKERS!!

If you know me, you know I'm a HUGE Los Angeles Lakers fan. They are my favorite team! We just won the 2nd of back to back championships, this time against the HATED Boston Celtics! So, for the Lakers, the men in purple and gold I dedicate one of Freddie Mercury's classics. We Are The Champions! I guess this means another meeting at the White House with President Obama!!

Beck Part Deux

I love how nobody else is like Beck, and perhaps more importantly he's not like anybody else. I love originality in an artist! I don't want to hear the 7th band that wants to sound like Led Zeppelin, I want to hear Led Zep!! I'm just so happy he's been allowed to put out music that is important to him and is not forced into conforming to some producers formula of what will be "popular".

This video was shot in East Los Angeles, Echo Park and the surrounding areas. I like the hidden messages theme of this video! ENJOY!

Beck Rules!

I'm in a Beck state of mind right now, it's almost 4:20pm on 23JUN10. I'm allowing myself some "down time". I've been laid off so I ain't got a job and am feeling just a little bit like a Loser. I haven't even thought about this blog in sometime, but thought I could at least do something creative while I wait to hear about a job I've applied for. In the meantime, I'm gonna look for music I love.
