Creative outlet

Greetings and Salutations!

I have decided to try something new, something sort of unexpected and not my usual thang. I'm following two inspirational quotes. "When was the last time you did something for the first time?" And, "If it is to be, it is up to me!" I have had a lifelong love affair with, and an appreciation of music. I felt the need for a creative outlet. My work doesn't allow me to be too creative, so it's time to be startin' something!

Drove me to tears- Baby I love Your Way!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1k7tEO3xKjc&feature=fvwrel

This song literally drove me to tears today. I was driving around doing errands when it came on the radio. I guess I was feeling emotional, but this song is so beautiful, and it got me was feeling sad. I want someone to feel this way about me, and I was feeling like it would never happen again. At least I get to go see Frampton Comes Alive in March at the Terrace Theatre!

Saturday Night's Alright For Fighting!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=26wEWSUUsUc

GO ELTON!!! Goodbye Yellowbrick Road is one of my all time favorite albums! Soo many great songs off this ONE record, amazing! There's nothing like seeing EJ live, on a Saturday, when you hear the drums, then the guitar riff that start off this song! WHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

What are words worth?

I love this photo, and I love this band! The Tom Tom Club are making their 2nd appearance on my blog. I used to hate this song until I LISTENED to the lyrics closely. I think it's the chorus that I thought was silly and annoying...
Chris and Tina were ahead of their time! Plus they are just about THE BEST rhythm section EVER! Dig the groovy beat AND it makes ya think! What are words worth?

Wolfgangs Part Deux

The Boy! I saw Culture Club live many moons ago. What was fascinating was that even amid half naked dancers strewn about the stage your eyes were riveted on Boy George!

Smashing Pumpkins!

Ever felt this way? This song gets out the rage!

Steppin' Out Part Deux!

Speaking of fantastic songs titled Steppin' Out! Joe Jackson, is a punk with a piano! LOVE his music! If you EVER hear that he is going to play live within a 49 state radius of California, PLEASE let me know! He's one artist I haven't seen, but would LOVE to!! Also, this song reminds me of a guy I dated round about 1982, who I had LOTS of fun with... Is she really goin' out with him? :-)

Steppin' Out!

One of my favorite reggae songs of all time, by Steel Pulse! So much going on in this song, I have the Earth Crisis CD that has a 9 minute dub version that is mind blowing! This song deserves to be TURNED UP and danced to! They are commanding you to dance! WISDOM IS RESPECTED, HATRED IS REJECTED!

My first 45!

This was the first 45 I ever bought, no not the Beatles but Herman's Hermits! Don't know what my first album was... This was the first wave of the British Invasion, released in the US in 1965! What was the first 45, EP, LP, Cassette or CD you bought?
Now for you youngsters, here's what a 45 looks like...

Is there anybody out there?

I have been blogging now since January 2010. I think maybe 2 people have ever visited or read it. But I don't mind, it's more me playing DJ, something I SHOULD have pursued in my youth. I'll post a song/video that inspires me and I talk about why... Pretty simple, maybe it's boring, or maybe my taste in music is too fringe/eclectic for the masses. And I don't care. I've never been interested in what's "popular", I like artists/bands that are doing their own thing, doing something different and NOT trying to sound like____________. Fill in the blank, the flavor of the month! That type of MOR music has never held my interest, and isn't something (with rare exceptions) you'll find me talking about. But take a few minutes, these posts are chock full of new artists, old favorites, and rediscovery. If you love music like I do, come check me out! Dig the fabulous guitar work on this one! Seeing Pink Floyd live at the Rose Bowl in 1995 was as my friend Kalani said, "a religious experience!"

What a Drag it is getting old...!

The Go Go's cover The Stones song Mother's Little Helper. The girls rock hard live, and they look great too! As Jane said, "sometimes when you get old, you get a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame!"

The Pretenders- My City Was Gone!

I love the Pretenders!! Today my friend Jackie sent me a text commanding that I listen to The Sound 100.3 NOW! They were (are) playing classic concerts from over the years, the Pretenders were on and they reminded her of ME! So I immediately dialed in, and got into it!. I LOVE the base line that runs through this entire song! I first saw the Pretenders with the original line up in 1981 @ the Santa Monica Civic with friends I worked with at Mayfair Pool. Needless to say it brought back many fond memories hearing them live today. Not only of the friends, but of Chrissie and the band too. I've since seen the Pretenders a couple of other times as well. Chrissie always looks the same and she ALWAYS kicks ass! Enjoy!! Thanks Jackie!!

Love Is A Losing Game

Obviously, I can't stop listening to this woman's music. This one, sadly is the story of my life...

RIP Amy Winehouse... Better Late Than Never

If you don't know her music, or you've only heard "Rehab", then you've missed out on a truly talented artist. Amy Winehouse had a voice and she had a disease called addiction. I believe she was treated unfairly by the press, and the English tabloid press has a ruthless reputation. I find this song Back to Black (the whole cd in fact!) to be fantastic! Amy had a look and sound straight out of the 60's Girl Groups, Beehive 'do and heavy eyeliner? Check out this pic of the Ronette's!

Neil Young- Old Man Take a Look at My Life

One of the cd's I just got at Left of The Dial Records is Neil Young's Harvest. I have the vinyl, but needed a slightly more portable copy. I LOVE this song, and think this album is one of THE BEST! Goin' 70's rock on y'all here! My friend PJ will be so proud! :)Psst, I also got Bowie's Ziggy Stardust and New Wave Hits of the 80's! That cd has Warm Leatherette and a host of songs from that very special decade of music!

left of the dial baby!

As a birthday gift I received the coolest ever gift for a Bowie freak like me. My dear brother, sister-in-law and nephews gave me a framed record album from Left Of The Dial Records in Seal Beach, CA. It ain't just the album cover, they vinyl is inside too! I just visited the store today for the first time, they have tons of vinyl, turntables, used cds, cassettes and t-shirts too! Basically everything a groovy independent record store needs! Check them out!!

Adele or Bob? Make You Feel My Love

This beautiful song was written by Bob Dylan and appeared on his brilliant, critically acclaimed Time Out of Mind album in 1997. I can't believe there isn't a decent video of Bob singing HIS song! I was listening to both versions (Adele off her debut "19" album) and Bob's original. I loved the stark emotion of Bob's version, it is piano and organ and Bob. Adele's version swaps out the organ for strings. Either way, this is a FANTASTIC love song... Wish I had someone to sing it to!! I'll keep looking for Bob, but in the meantime, here's Adele! I FOUND Bob!!

And now for something completely different...!

How about a duo of a Dj and an electric violinist?? WHAT, you say?! It's a pretty unique concept, but don't knock it til you've heard it... DJ Mia Moretti and electronic violinist Caitlin Moe were part of "Women Who Rock" week on Last Call with Carson Daly this week. Betcha ain't heard this before!

Pat Boone- Tutti Frutti

Notice the change in the lyrics? Plus this version sounds smoother, less urgent. Like I said, I'll take Richard ANY DAY!!

Tutti Frutti- Little Richard

Some the most rockin' early rock & roll! I love Richard!

Rock a Billy roots- Carl Perkins- Dixie Fried

Carl Perkins WAS rock a billy. A great artists that never quite got his due. He is revered by musicians, but didn't get the public acclaim/popularity of his peers. Ain't It A Shame.

One Year of Music Blogs!

I realized today (belatedly) that as of 09JAN11, I've been doing this music blog for exactly one year. I thought I'd post Tom Tom Club's Genius of Love. My friend PJ sent me a text last night to tell me they were appearing on Jimmy Fallon's show last night. They have a new live album "Genius of Live" out, celebrating 30 years of music! They rocked the house, love Chris and Tina and their funky selves!! They are a GREAT band to see live!
